RCMP Cst. David Wynn Mourned by Wood Buffalo RCMP
RCMP Cst. David Wynn, one of the two Mounties who was shot when a gunman started firing at a St. Albert casino, was mourned by the Wood Buffalo RCMP as well as other divisions around Canada. Roughly 30 law enforcement officers from Fort MacMurray marched on Monday to show support for all first responders. The funeral march also included more than 2,000 RCMP officers as well as municipal police departments from around the country and even New York and Chicago. According to Wood Buffalo RCMP Cpl. George Cameron “I was kind of taken back a bit, seeing the different people from the different police forces, from not just only Canada, but the other countries as well. The streets that we marched on, there were people (on) both sides. A lot of people had signs of support, which is really nice to see.”
The funeral march to honor RCMP Cst David Wynn and all first responders brought large crowds who showed their support for those who are often the first ones in the line of fire. Cpl. George Cameron of the Wood Buffalo RCMP continued by saying “There was of course, marching, you’re hearing thank yous, we support you. And when they say you, they’re talking about all policemen, not just RCMP, so it’s kind of nice to hear that from the public, sure,. I’d like to thank the members of the public for the tremendous support, it’s a sombre occasion. It was basically a thank-you to all first responders, firefighters, paramedics, you name it. It’s just unfortunate that it takes that for everyone to get together, but there was certainly a feel of cameraderieship or something like that. It was very nice to see.”
