As snow continues to fall across northern Alberta, RCMP are urging people to stay off the roads.
RCMP say highways 881, 55, 36, 663 and 858 are all in “treacherous condition” and that travel is strongly discouraged.
Lac La Biche RCMP closed Highway 881 because of a fatal crash Saturday morning involving a motorcycle and a semi-truck. It was the third fatal collision in the area in three days.
Cst. Chris Clark said people need to stay off the roads.
“They need to realize if they are out there driving on the highways and going through our county they’re putting themselves at risk, they’re putting other members of the public at risk and in the end ultimately putting emergency responders at risk as well,” Clark said.
Poor weather has also made for poor driving conditions on Highway 63 north of Wandering River. Police say large vehicles are unable to move and are parked on the side of the highway.
Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for much of northern Alberta, including Fort McMurray, Fort MacKay, Fort Saskatchewan, Vegreville, Redwater, Smoky Lake, Bonnyville, St. Paul, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche,and Peace River.
