The newly-appointed chair of the Winnipeg Police Board supports supports a national inquiry into murdered and missing aboriginal women.
St. James Brooklands Coun. Scott Gillingham said he’s reviewed a September motion from city council on the issue and stands behind a request to the federal government.
The council motion came after police chief Devon Clunis told the board Winnipeg should “take the reins” on murdered and missing women.
Clunis said “if any city should feel really close to this issue, it should be the city of Winnipeg.”
The first meeting of the police board for the new city council is Friday.
