A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a police vehicle while being chased by officers, and then crashing the vehicle into a tree.
Police say the chase began when a woman, who was sitting in her vehicle near 132nd Avenue and 113A Street, was approached and threatened by the suspect early Thursday morning. The woman drove away and soon after called police.
An EPS canine unit sent to the area found the man nearby. Howver, the man was able to slip by officers and then stole a “police service vehicle,” taking off onto 132nd Avenue.
The man then allegedly lost control of the vehicle while making a left-hand turn a few blocks away, hitting a tree. Police say the driver was injured in the crash.
He was arrested and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say charges are pending.
