Video Interview: Jeremiah Zagar on We the Animals

Currently nominated for a handful of Independent Spirit Awards, Jeremiah Zagar took a break from celebrating to talk to me about his incredible film, his first fiction film “We the Animals.” The movie is about a strained family whose three sons are on the precipice of manhood, whose father and mother are on the verge of collapse and whose reality, as we know it, is on the edge of fantasy. Told in an expressionistic, extra-realistic style, “We the Animals” is a refreshingly unapologetic look at childhood and the way kids think, feel and dream. And the way our parents’ actions form our identities. Zagar, passionate and considerate, spoke about fantasy, time, class and performance.
