Motorcycle racer killed in crash at track south of Edmonton

A motorcycle racer died Sunday after he was involved in a crash Sunday at Castrol Raceway, south of Edmonton.

Leduc RCMP were called to the track around 2:30 p.m., RCMP Cpl. Ron Bumbry told CBC News on Monday.

The Edmonton Motorcycle Roadracing Association had rented out the track and was hosting an event when the crash occurred, Bumbry said.

Police could not say whether other bikes were involved in the crash. Police continue to investigate, Bumbry said.

Bumbry described the victim as an adult male. An autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.

Castrol Raceway, formerly known as Capital City Raceway Park and Capital Raceway, is located off Highway 19 in Leduc County, just north of the Edmonton International Airport.
