A church in Stony Plain that caught fire on Saturday is likely a “total loss,” according to Stony Plain/Spruce Grove/ Enoch RCMP.
Firefighters and RCMP were called to the church, located on 49th Street and 53rd Avenue in Stony Plain, late Saturday afternoon. Crews continued to battle the fire into the night. RCMP Cpl. Kim Mueller said demolition crews are being called in to prevent the fire from spreading to other structures in the area.
RCMP said no one was injured. The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time, though Mueller said RCMP are gathering witness statements and should have a cause determined over the next few days.
Police are still asking the public to avoid the area as firefighters work to make sure the fire doesn’t spread.
