A complaint that two young children were left alone on a street in Lloydminster led RCMP to a cache of stolen property.
Four people are now facing a slew of criminal charges.
In a news release Tuesday, Lloydminster RCMP said they got a complaint that two young children were on a street alone at about 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 28.
When the children were returned home, officers recognized a man who was wanted by police. He ran inside the home.
Police got a search warrant. Their search of the property turned up two firearms, bear spray, ammunition, drugs and debit cards. Police also found two stolen motorcycles, a stolen Ford Escape, and numerous tools that had been stolen from Cold Lake, Kitscoty and Lloydminster.
“It is evident that these individuals are involved with property crimes that span over a large area of eastern Alberta,” Sgt. Gerrald Walker said in the news release.
Three people — a 31-year-old man from Onion Lake, a 23-year-old man from Lloydminster and a 21-year-old woman from Lloydminster — are each charged with 17 offences.
Charges include possession of stolen property, possession of credit card data and possession of a controlled substance. The three also face charges related to prohibited firearms.
The Onion Lake man is also facing seven other counts of possession of firearms and ammunition while prohibited, and of failing to comply with an undertaking. The Lloydminster man is charged with two counts of possession of a weapon while prohibited.
A second 21-year-old woman from Lloydminster has been charged with breaching her recognizance.
The four appeared in Saskatchewan provincial court Monday. The men were remanded into custody and the women were released. Their next court dates are in late October.
