If you a want a nice, cold drink of water to beat the hot August heat in Stony Plain this weekend, you’re going to have to boil it first.
The municipality, located 17 kilometers west of Edmonton, is under a boil water advisory all weekend after a water main break occurred Friday afternoon.
The break happened at an ongoing construction site at 44th Avenue in the municipality and because of the break running water was shut down in the city for two hours.
While the water has since been restored, an advisory is still in effect because of the shutdown. It is in effect until 12 p.m. on Monday.
Residents are asked to use bottled water or boil their tap water for at least one minute.

“A boil water advisory is issued when harmful germs (e.g., E. coli bacteria, Giardia parasite) may be in a drinking water supply,” Alberta Health Services said in a statement.
“During a boil water advisory use boiled water, bottled water, or water from another safe public supply not affected by the advisory.”
Albert Salamle — owner of Basile’s 2 for 1 Pizza and Pasta — said the water break is a hassle for restaurant workers.
While he says his business was still good Friday night, he and his workers have to use surgical gloves and frequently sanitize their hands.
“We have to boil the water all the way until noon on Monday, and I hope that everything will be OK after that,” said Salamle.
“It’s inconvenient but when you have to do it, you have to do it.”
