Man facing charges after jumping roof to roof to evade police in Red Deer

Red Deer police say a man jumped from roof to roof in the Grandview neighbourhood to evade police after they found him in a stolen car.

RCMP were called around 2:30 p.m. Monday about a suspicious vehicle on a side street near 40A Avenue. When they found the car — a blue Mazda that had been reported stolen in Red Deer in May — the male occupant fled on foot.

Police say the man ran through yards and jumped from roof to roof from 32nd Street to 39th Street while police chased him on foot.

After about half an hour he surrendered to police.

The 23-year-old man from Blackfalds was arrested and police say he will face charges in relation to the incident.

RCMP say the public was not in danger during the chase.
