Statement on Network Disruption Affecting Access to Phoenix System


OTTAWA, Ontario, July 27, 2016 — Early this morning one of the Government of Canada data centres experienced an automatic emergency shutdown due to its smoke detection sensors being activated. Power was immediately restored and staff have worked through the night to restore services to the data centre.

Phoenix Pay System Disruption

The Phoenix pay system is working now however access to the system was unavailable this morning. This incident did not affect employees scheduled to receive payments on July 27th. Compensation advisors continued to work on employee files and are resolving existing pay problems as quickly as possible.

Other Services

Shared Services Canada reacted quickly to get everything back up and running but, other than Phoenix, there were disruptions in the following services:

  • Interim BlackBerry Enterprise Service (iBES)
  • Mobile Traveler’s Device Infrastructure (MTDI)
  • TERMIUM Plus
  • Some Government of Canada websites including Public Health Agency of Canada and Treasury Board Secretariat
