Downtown Syncrude Towers Designated Crime Free
Downtown Syncrude Towers is the very first location to be designated crime free, and it took some effort for the downtown development to get there. The official name for the development is River Park Glen, and the management has spent several months making big improvements to the reputation of the housing complex. These efforts have paid off because the development received the first Crime-Free Multi-Housing certificate handed out by the municipality. This does not mean that crime will never occur at the housing complex, but that best practices in safety and zero tolerance have been established and are being followed.
According to On Site Solutions manager Jeff Peddle Syncrude Towers being designated as crime free is a positive move. “It’s certainly a new day for River Park Glen and the name of the establishment. Crime free means zero tolerance. You have a party again? You get an infraction. A third infraction and you’re evicted. If you’re not a good fit for here, you don’t belong here. So that means you belong somewhere else. Where else? I don’t care as long as you’re not here.” Peddle said that between 40 and 60 tenants have been evicted in the last year and that this is “absolutely a good thing.” Resident Libby Farrell, a 62 year old who lives in the complex, said “They’ve done a lot of painting. They’ve got all the lights done. I like living here a lot. The building is actually not so bad, it’s just some of the people, how they’re treating it. What can you do? (Peddle has) done his best. You can’t do any more than that.”
