Missing Woman from Fort McMurray Located After Wood Buffalo RCMP Investigation
A missing woman from Fort McMurray has been located after a Wood Buffalo RCMP investigation. 52 year old Joanne Morin was reported missing by family members after she was last seen on November 25 when she left Fort McMurray to go to Calgary. Morin’s family expected her to be back the same day, and by December 2 they contacted the police to report her missing when no one heard from her. The disappearance of Morin was widely reported by the media, and Morin eventually contacted her family to let them know she was safe and that she was currently in the Edmonton area. In addition to the phone call from Morin her safety was confirmed by the Morinville RCMP detachment.
The Wood Buffalo RCMP investigation into the missing woman has been closed, and Morin has not committed any crime so no charges will be filed. According to Cst. Ashley Quallie, the spokesperson fr the Wood Buffalo RCMP, “All we are able to confirm is that she is safe and her family knows she is safe.” Quallie would not elaborate on why Morin was in Edmonton instead of Calgary, or why the woman had not had any contact with her family since sh left Fort McMurray in late November. Concern started when Morin’s family learned that she did not arrive in Calgary as planned, and the concern grew as days went by and Morin did not call her family. At least Morin was found safe and unharmed, and she has contacted her family so they know she is okay.
