Athabasca Man Faces Drug Charges After Individual Calls Wrong Number and Reaches Boyle RCMP Officer
An Athabasca man is facing drug charges after another individual dialed the wrong number several times and reached a Boyle RCMP officer instead of the dealer that he was looking for. Usually police have to play detective, track down leads and information, and work hard for any arrest that they make. Thanks to someone dialing the wrong number repeatedly officers were able to bring drug charges against an individual without a lot of work on their part. It all started when a man called a number that he believed was his drug dealer, but that actually belonged to the personal cell phone for a police officer in Athabasca. During the initial call the officer explained that the man had the wrong number and hung the phone up.
When the individual called back repeatedly the Boyle RCMP officer asked who the man was looking for. The caller told the officer that he was looking for Trevor Dennis and he even gave the officer the street address for Dennis. Since Trevor Dennis was an Athabasca resident who was under investigation for drug trafficking at a street level by both the Boyle and the Athabasca RCMP units it was not hard to take things from there. Kevin McGillivray, the Boyle RCMP Detachment Commander Sergeant, stated “Police work doesn’t get much easier than this.” The details the caller provided to the officer about Dennis was enough for the police to obtain a warrant, and drug charges were issued for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and also for possession of cocaine.
