Repairs for Waterline Break Leave Many Brett Drive Residents Without Water for a Day
Brett Drive was closed off for the day last Tuesday as a waterline break was being repaired, and this is just the latest waterline break to occur as part of the planned water and sewer system upgrades in the area. The leak occurred near the residence at 139 Brett Drive, and the company doing the work in the area was Surmont Sand & Gravel Ltd. This is the same company in charge when the other waterline breaks happened. Two days before the leak was noticed Surmont Sand & Gravel Ltd. contractors were backfilling and resurfacing in the area. According to RMWB Environmental Services director Darcy Dragonetti “It’s likely just a leak on the service lateral to the home, as a result of the restoration work that’s been occurring with the backfilling and the asphalt.”
Dragonettis was confident that the waterline break on Brett Drive was a small problem that could be quickly addressed and resolved. The director explained “Notices have gone out to the residents, we’ve knocked on the doors and advised them of the pending shutdowns to that section of pipe. They’ll excavate, they’ll find the leak, they’ll shut the system down if they have to. And then they’ll make the repair, turn the system back [on] and do the backfilling.” The repairs were completed close to 5 pm on Tuesday and Brett Drive was reopened to traffic after the backfilling was complete. Paving is in the coordination process with the engineering department of RMWB. An email from Brendan Proce, the press secretary fr RMWB, said that the leak was due to the “main stop on the saddle to the water main.”
