Alberta to send supplies to other provinces in need during pandemic
Premier Jason Kenney announced Saturday the province would be sending equipment to other provinces battling the pandemic.
The premier also gave an update on COVID-19 cases in the province, adding 69 confirmed cases to bring the provincial total to 1,569. An additional death in the Calgary zone was also reported.
Forty-seven Albertans were hospitalized — one less than Friday — and 13 in intensive care units. A total of 774 people have recovered, according to the premier.
He said Alberta had an excess capacity of equipment because planning that began early during the pandemic.
“Part of that preparedness was the excellent work done by Alberta Health Services procurement division,” he said.
According to the news release, Ontario will receive:
- 250,000 N95 masks
- 5 million procedural masks
- 15 million gloves
- 87,000 goggles
- 50 ventilators
Quebec will recieve:
- 250,000 N95 masks
- 2 million procedural masks
- 15 million gloves
While British Columbia is set to receive 250,000 N95 masks.
“This is the right thing to do,” Healther Minister Tyler Shandro said at the press conference, adding that their first priority is Albertans.
“I assure all Albertans that we will have ample supply.”
