'For the people, by the people': Mi'kmaw entrepreneurs making a (fashion) statement


When two Mi’kmaw entrepreneurs launched their brand, L’nu’k Clothing Co., at Millbrook First Nation, N.S., in November, they say they knew it was a concept Indigenous and non-Indigenous people could connect with. 

L’nu’k means “the people” in the Mi’kmaw language. Jennifer Denny and Cheyenne Isaac-Gloade, both of whom are known for their designs using traditional Mi’kmaw motifs and powwow regalia, are encouraging their clients — and the fashion industry — to acknowledge Indigenous rights.
