Free Summer Camp Available for Kids in Wood Buffalo
Kids in Wood Buffalo will have the opportunity to attend free summer camp this summer thanks to the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. There are openings for children between the ages of 3 years old and 12 years old, with 1,000 spots available for local children. 200 of these spots are designated for kids between 3 and 5 years old, and the remaining 800 spots are designated for kids between 6 and 12 years old. RRC CEO Annette Antoniak explained that the free summer camp program was made possible by a partnership with Scotiabank, saying “The sponsorship from Scotiabank covers all their lunches, the sporting equipment that will be needed. There will be sports, games, golf, bouncy castles, all kinds of things for the kids to do all day long.”
Scotiabank representative Diana Hart also discussed the free summer camp program for kids in Wood Buffalo. According to Hart “We’ve been really impressed by all the work the community has done in terms of trying to get life back to normal. And if this is just one little thing that we can do to support them, we’re happy to do it. One of the things we recognized coming back is that there will be a lot of parents that are going to have to deal with their situation in their homes and their work lives, and that, potentially, there wouldn’t be day cares open.” Space is limited to the 1,000 spots so parents are encouraged to register either online or at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre as early as possible to ensure that their children get one of the open spots before they fill up.
