Groundbreaking event marks the beginning of important work to upgrade Trois-Pistoles' water and sewer systems
Trois-Pistoles, Quebec, May 24, 2016—Work is getting under way in Trois-Pistoles today on an infrastructure project receiving almost $4 million in financial support from the federal and provincial governments.
Participating in the event was Jean D’Amour, Quebec Minister of State for Maritime Affairs, Minister responsible for the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, and Member of the National Assembly for Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata, on behalf of Martin Coiteux, Quebec Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Minister of Public Safety and Minister Responsible for the Region of Montréal.
This project consists of replacing the water lines and twinning the single sewer line along Jean-Rioux Sud and Notre-Dame Est Streets (from Jean-Rioux to Martin). Identified as a priority in Trois-Pistoles’ plan to renew its drinking water lines, sewer lines, and roadways, the work will allow citizens to benefit from safer more stable water infrastructure for years to come.
This project is receiving a total of $3,893,647 in government funding:
- $2,682,380, split equally between the governments of Canada and Quebec, is being provided through the Communities Component of the federal Building Canada Fund;
- $1,211,267 of the funding is being provided through the federal Gas Tax Fund and a contribution from the Government of Quebec:
- Canada: $857,577;
- Quebec: $353,690.
