Criminal Charges Result From Abasand Drive Raid by Wood Buffalo RCMP
A recent Abasand Drive raid by the Wood Buffalo RCMP on April 10 has resulted in criminal charges for 4 individuals, 3 men and 1 woman. During the raid cocaine and a handgun were seized. Police arrived at the Abasand Drive home armed with a search warrant where they discovered an amount of cocaine that was under 5 grams as well as a loaded handgun. Police started an investigation into the activity at the residence after reports of possible drug trafficking were received, and this investigation had continued for several weeks before the raid took place. The 2 men charged with crimes are 21 year old Hanad Liiban Asmaan and 22 year old Mahamed Meykal Mohamed, both Fort McMurray residents, and 20 year old Yassin Yusof Omar who did not have a fixed residence or permanent address. The only woman arrested and charged was 22 year old Fort McMurray resident Deka Yusuf Hersi.
The police have stated that the recent raid was not cnnected to other arrests for drugs and drug investigations in recent weeks. Wood Buffalo RCMP spokesperson Cpl. George Cameron discussed the Abasand Drive raid, stating “This is a new one. We get information from time to time that results in us starting a drug investigation and sometimes this is how it ends. This was a few weeks old when they acted. They had spent weeks getting information.” The charges filed against one or more of the 4 individuals arrested in the Abasand Drive raid include possession for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a firearm without a licence, storing a loaded firearm, careless storage of a firearm and ammunition.
