Phil Walding Goes from Taxi Inspector to Sun Taxi Dispatcher After Child Porn Charges

Phil Walding, who used to be the chief taxi inspector for the municipality of Wood Buffalo until he was charged with offences involving child porn, now works as a Sun Taxi dispatcher and that could be a problem according to some critics because Walding still has access to computer equipment and Internet connections. According to the court records 51 year old Walding started working as a taxi dispatcher for Sun in September of 2015 after he lost his job at the municipality because of the criminal charges that were laid against him. Ron McNeil, the owner of Sun Taxi, says that Walding is complying with his bail conditions while on the job and defends hiring Walding. “He’s the most ethical guy I’ve ever dealt with. Does he have a moral flaw or whatever? I don’t know. The courts will decide that. But he’s innocent until proven guilty. He gets an address and puts it into the system. All these transactions he has are logged. He has no access to anything.”

The bail conditions for Phil Walding as a result of the child porn charges prohibit Walding from accessing the Internet or owning any equipment or device that can access the Internet, but there is an exception for the computer that is used in his job as a taxi dispatcher. While Walding is working he can access Google Maps and the website for Fort McMurray International Airport but that is it. According to Councillor Keith McGrath many taxi drivers still resent Walding. According to McGrath “I know nothing has been proven in court, but to a lot of people it seems like an awkward place for him to end up. The drivers have been talking about it. As soon as the cab drivers found out where he was working, I told them if they had any concerns to bring them up with our taxi commission.”
