Melody Lepine is Nominated for Women of Inspiration Award
Women of Inspiration is a series that celebrates women from Northern Alberta who have had an impact on girls and women, and who are exceptional role models. Melody Lepine has been nominated for the Women of Inspiration series, and her nomination is no surprise to those who know her. Every year a dozen women are chosen as nominees for the series, and a summer celebration is held where all the nominees come together. Melody is nominee number 7 for the 2015-2016 year. The series and celebration are put on by organizations Syncrude and Northern Alberta Girls Inc. The goal of Women of Inspiration is to inspire more females to become leaders and innovators in their communities. Nominees showcase their accomplishments and the personal stories f their triumphs and trials in life.
In addition to Melody Lepine the other Women of Inspiration nominees for the current series year include Heather Roberts, Elena Gould, Carla Young, Frances Jean, Carna MacEachern, Vicki Dawe, and Sheila Chutskoff. When Lepine found out that she was nominated for the series she commented “It came as a surprise. I think they just seem to have really recognized and appreciated my, I guess sort of bold decision to run in the federal election. It’s exciting because I think we need more indigenous women as role models in our communities in our regions and in our country. I think there are outstanding achievements being made.” Melody has always called Wood Buffalo home, being born in Fort McMurray and then spending her early life in Fort Chipewyan growing up.
