Janvier stabbing, criminal charges

Criminal charges have been filed against a Wood Buffalo man in the recent Janvier stabbing. According to the allegations the man stabbed the victim in the face on October 6, 2015 a little after 7 pm in the evening. A report was made and the Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a complaint. The attack occurred on the Chipewyan Prairie Dene First Nation which is close to Janvier. Responding officers who arrived on the scene found the victim with a stab wound in the facial area. The wound was considered serious but not life threatening, and the victim was taken by emergency medical air transport to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre where he was treated for the wound. The victim was a 26 year old male.

29 year old Tyrone Tyson Cardinal has been arrested for the Janvier stabbing, and criminal charges have been filed against him. Cardinal has been charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling house, aggravated assault, breaking and entering, and 2 counts of breaching probation. According to Wood Buffalo RCMP Constable Ashley Quallie police believe that the attack was spontaneous and not planned out in advance. Quallie stated “The speculation is that it was a spur of the moment incident. There is nothing to suspect it was premeditated. I can’t one hundred per cent say it wasn’t, though.” Cardinal stayed in police custody, and his next court appearance after his arrest was scheduled for October 13, 2015 in Fort McMurray. There are no further reports on the condition of the victim.
