Fort Chipewyan Stabbing Under Investigation, One Person Charged
A Fort Chipewyan stabbing that occurred on Sunday morning is still being investigated by law enforcement, and one person has been charged so far for this violent crime. The Fort Chipewyan RCMP received a call that there was a stabbing, and the officers responded to the Doghead Reserve which is situated just outside of the small community. Upon arriving at the residence the police found a woman with injuries consistent with being stabbed. The victim was initially transported to a local medical clinic, and then she was airlifted to an Edmonton hospital where her condition was considered serious but not life threatening. The name of the stabbing victim has not been released by police yet. RCMP spokesperson Constable Ashley Quallie did confirm that the woman who was stabbed was not a minor.
After the RCMP responded to the Fort Chipewyan stabbing an investigation into the violent crime was started. A short time after they received the report and responded to the residence of the victim the police arrested 20 year old Dalton Vermillion at a different address and residence. When police executed a search warrant at Dalton’s home they recovered a number of pieces of evidence that were related to the crime. Vermillion faces charges of aggravated assault as well as numerous other charges that are all related to the violent crime in question. So far police have not disclosed why the stabbing occurred or the relationship between Vermillion and the victim, or if there was even a relationship or motive for the violent crime to begin with.
