Good Samaritan Alberta Beating Victim John St. Jean No Longer on Life Support, Breathing on His Own

Alberta beating victim, Good Samaritan, John St. Jean

Good Samaritan John St. Jean, the Alberta beating victim who was placed on life support after stepping in to protect a child and being beaten unconscious at a local party store, is now off life support and breathing on his own. The incident occurred on April 2, 2015, and John St. Jean went to a local party store shortly after 9 pm to meet someone and purchase a ring for his wife so that he could surprise her. When St. Jean was in the parking lot of Mac’s Convenience Store he saw a 10 year old boy being intimidated and threatened by an adult male, who was calling the child a racial slur. St. Jean intervened and an argument ensued with the adult male, who then turned and walked away.

When Good Samaritan John St. Jean turned to enter the convenience store the adult male assaulted him and severely beat him even after he became unconscious. The Alberta beating victim was in a coma from his injuries and was initially placed on life support to assist with breathing and other body functions. When doctors first tried to awaken St. Jean from the coma there were complications, but he is now off all forms of life support and is breathing on his own. The man who assaulted St. Jean has been identified by police as 24 year old Kyle Douglas Giroux, who has been charged with aggravated assault as well as failure to comply with a probation order. St. Jean’s wife Dawn Mackay, the woman who the surprise gift was for, posted on Facebook “The (accused) will appear before the judge on Wednesday and we will be following the outcome as closely as all of you. I wish we could be there in person but at the moment it’s more important to be with John. Thank you all once again for your continued support & prayers.”
