RCMP Investigating Gregoire Homicide
The RCMP is investigating a Gregoire homicide, and so far few details have been released. On March 17, at approximately 8 am, the police received a call from emergency medical services about a man receiving treatment who had been stabbed and was found in the road. The victim was transported to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre with severe injuries, and he passed away as a result of his injuries later the same day. An autopsy determined that the cause of death was homicide and the RCMP believes that the stabbing was not a random act and that the victim and the suspect knew each other although the exact cause of the attack has not been disclosed. According to RCMP Cst. Ashley Quallie “All of those details aren’t being released right now in regards to the investigation because it’s undergoing.”
According to the RCMP the Gregoire homicide was initially classified as an aggravated assault, however the victim’s death and the autopsy mean that it is now a homicide case. The victim was not a Fort MacMurray native but was residing in the local area, and RCMP CST. Quallie stated “We don’t currently have a suspect in custody, but our major crimes unit is diligently working on the investigation” The name of the victim was withheld at the request of family members.
