Former Fort MacMurray Residents Get the Chance to Compete for Reality Hunting Show
Some former Fort MacMurray residents will get a chance to produce their own reality hunting show, but only if they can beat out 7 other contestant groups. Season 3 of the reality show The Search will feature husband and wife Leo and Susan Paquin along with two of their family friends, who will be representing Coyote Country. The show has contestants compete for a single spot with a new reality show, and only one of the eight groups will win this opportunity. The couple resided in Fort MacMurray between the years 1992 and 2008 when Leo was a reclamation coordinator for Suncor Energy in Fort MacMurray. The pair came back in February of 2015 in order to film a bison hunt. The Paquins now live in Bonnyville, Alta., but they continue to hunt with bow and rifle, and have been successful with many species in the past.
When discussing the chance to host a reality hunting show the former Fort MacMurray residents were enthusiastic. Len Paquin told the media “We tried to capture the excitement of the hunt. We submitted seven hunts this year, and two of the hunts are first-time people that have never harvested an animal before. We’ve got all levels of experience on our team. We’ve got junior people and we’ve got some people who’ve hunted for 25, 30 years. Some teams, they specifically only hunt deer, so one thing I think we might have an edge on is we’re trying to be diverse. We’re lucky in Alberta … so I’m hoping the diversity of our hunts is what our viewers will like.” Leo also discussed his wife’s first deer hunt which was captured on tape, saying “It seemed to capture a lot of raw emotion and it was her first deer. She actually filmed it solo for a portion of the hunt — she captured the kill shot all by herself. I had to leave mid-morning to go pick up our son who was a sleepover, and of course … the deer happened to come by while I was gone, so she had to run the camera and everything. No pressure.”
