Fatal Plane Crash in Washington Kills Stony Plain Pilot Michael Clements
A fatal plane crash in Spokane, Washington has cost Stony Plain pilot Michael Clements his life. Clements was the only person in the plane, which took off Sunday afternoon from Fells Field in Spokane and then crashed shortly after. The crash occurred on Sunday afternoon at approximately 2 pm. Witnesses who saw the crash detailed an aircraft that was crushed up against an overpass on the road, and many said that the pilot appeared to be in really bad condition. The plane involved in the accident was a single-engine Piper PA-46-350P. In spite of undergoing emergency surgery, and heroic efforts by police and rescue personnel who arrived at the scene of the crash, Clements passed away from his injuries Tuesday afternoon.

Rescue personnel and police officers on the scene were captured on video because one of the individuals was wearing a body cam. The video shows a desperate effort by everyone to save the pilot and get him to the hospital. One unarmed officer can be heard repeating “Keep fighting, sir, keep fighting.” The first responders also went into the plane to cut Clements out of his seat belt in spite of the fact that jet fuel was leaking from the aircraft and the plane could have exploded at any second. According to the NTSB there was a loss of power reported by Clements shortly after he took off, but the final cause of the accident has not been determined yet.
