Phil Rudd, Drummer for AC/DC, Charged for Involvement in Murder for Hire Plot
Phil Rudd, the well known drummer for the hit music group AC/DC has been charged with involvement in a murder for hire plot, along with other charges. Apparently the drummer has been charged in New Zealand for trying to arrange to have two men murdered, along with making threats to kill, possession of cannabis, and possession of methamphetamine. The drummer was arrested last Thursday morning. SunLive was one of the first news outlets in New Zealand to break the story about the 60 year old AC/DC drummer and band member. The Taraunga home of the drummer was raided on Thursday morning, and he had an appearance in the Tauranga District Court the same day. The next court appearance that Phil Rudd has for the case will take place three weeks later.
Apparently Phil Rudd was the mastermind behind the murder plot, and he was caught according to reports when the drummer tried to arrange for the murder of two men. This occurred between the 25th and 26th of September, and when police performed the raid on his home they found drugs and charged Phil Rudd with additional offenses due to this fact. Rudd’s career with AC/DC started out rocky, and he joined the group in 1975 but then the band kicked him out in 1983. In 1994 Rudd joined the popular band once more, and he is still with AC/DC today. Rudd was charged with cannabis possession in 2010, but this occurred under his actual legal moniker of Phillip Witschke. The statement released by the official AC/DC website reads “We’ve only become aware of Phil’s arrest as the news was breaking. We have no further comment. Phil’s absence will not affect the release of our new album Rock or Bust and upcoming tour next year.”
