The discovery of a suspicious package at West Edmonton Mall this morning has shut down a section of the mall, say Edmonton police.
The entrance near Sport Chek on the upper level of the mall is currently under a lockdown.
Police are not releasing any further details at this time and WEM officials are not available for comment.
In February, the mall tightened security after the al-Qaeda-linked group al-Shabaab named West Edmonton Mall as a possible target in an online video. The video appears to call on followers to attack shopping malls in the United States, U.K., France, and Canada.
At the time, Edmonton police said there was no “imminent threat” to the city or to shoppers at the mall.
